The fastest game on two feet is no longer a secret. Over the past two decades we’ve witnessed a steady and intense growth in the number of active lacrosse players, fans, coaches, referees, and enthusiasts in the world. The game is fast, physical and historical. It’s fun to play and fun to watch both live and on television. One thing that we find interesting about lacrosse resides in its appeal. Lacrosse seems to resonate with just about every personality out there. From jocks to artists, rich to poor, girls to boys — lacrosse is a universal game with a language all its own that is being embraced all over the world.

In rural areas, first year high school lacrosse coaches would first go after the football team to recruit. They figured they could sell football players on lacrosse by saying things like, “Chirs, come play lacrosse. Its faster than football, you can body check people and we’ll give you a 6 foot metal pole to whack people with!” However, over the past 5 years we’ve watched the game roll into a different landscape and lifestyle. One filled with bright colors, sunshine and beaming personalities. Lacrosse has made its way to the beach.

On a trip to Jax Beach in northern Florida we noticed some clear signs that lacrosse had arrived. There was lacrosse being played on the beach, at local parks, in skate parks and on public tennis courts. Its not uncommon these days to see a kid walking down the street carrying a surfboard and a lacrosse stick. We believe this is because Jax Beach is a perfect breeding ground for lacrosse players because its not your average beach town. Its gritty and blue collar. With a historically significant punk rock and art scene we believe this hard-nosed town will be producing incredible lacrosse players in the years to come. The cool part of it is that its not just the football players that are diggin’ America’s oldest sport. The skaters, surfers and fisherman are getting in on the action as well because lacrosse has an edge and an element of individual expression.

Here are some photos that Mike took while we were in town visiting some of our favorite lacrosse personalities the electric Pat Harnett, the Navy All-American Graham Gill, and skate legend, former Powell and Peralta skater Donny Griffin. Follow us on Instagram to watch a few videos from the day. We’re excited to watch the growth of lacrosse in this particular beach town because if their lacrosse style matches their lifestyle it will be hard to beat.
