What We’re Watching: April 15 – April 21

For schools in the northern states, the cold weather is finally gone and that usually means that the playoffs are near. There are only two more weekends left until most teams will start their conference playoffs. These last games will be the most important of some player’s careers as they fight to get into the postseason. Expect some of the most intense lacrosse yet as these are some of the games we can’t wait to watch this week.

Friday April 19

#4 Yale vs UAlbany
Watch on ESPN+ at 7 PM

Albany has struggled a bit this season, but is still a dangerous team when they are firing on all cylinders. However, they will be facing the well oiled machine that is the Yale Bulldogs. In years past Albany and Yale have played some tight one goal games and there is potential for this to be good one if the Great Danes come to play.

Saturday April 20

Hobart vs Mount St Mary’s
Watch on HWS Athletics at 12 PM

The NEC is anybody’s to claim this year with Mount St. Mary’s having a great season as they lead the conference at 4-0 and Hobart and Sacred Heart right behind them. Hobart is an offensive nightmare when they get going, but they will have to get by this new look and confident Mount team that is looking to make a postseason run.

#12 Notre Dame vs North Carolina
Watch on ESPNU at 12 PM

This is a huge game for both of these teams as both of their postseason hopes will likely be determined by this game. Notre Dame has some quality wins on its resume, but UNC only has their win against Duke to help them and winning this game and getting into the ACC tournament is their only hope of clawing their way to the playoffs. This will be a fight to the finish.

#20 Delaware vs #14 Towson

The battle for the CAA has gotten a lot more interesting with the emergence of Delaware and the recent struggles of Towson. A win here secures Delaware’s spot in the CAA tournament and makes life difficult for Towson, but expect the Tigers to come out firing. Delaware is having its best season since 1999.

#2 Maryland vs #9 Ohio State
Watch on Big Ten Network at 1 PM

These two Big Ten juggernauts will definitely put on a show as they have been two of the best teams in the country this season. Maryland will be tough to beat with Jared Bernhardt and Logan Wisnauskas both already scoring 60 points this season.

#8 Loyola vs #17 Army
Watch on CBS Sports Network at 2:30 PM

With Loyola’s loss to Boston last weekend, the Patriot League title is up for grabs and Army is in position to do so if they can keep Pat Spencer at bay and play as hard as they did in their rivalry win against Navy where Matt Manown won it for the Black Knights in overtime.

Utah vs Cleveland State
Watch on Pac-12 Network at 3 PM

Cleveland State is a third year program and Utah is a first year program, yet they both have had impressive seasons and shown that they are ready to compete and win against some good established programs. They will now battle each other to see who is the best newer program.

Sunday April 21

#1 Penn State vs #19 Johns Hopkins
Watch on ESPNU at 12 PM

Hopkins’ is in a must win situation against Penn State this weekend and Maryland the next. If they don’t win one of these games their season is most likely over. Penn State is looking almost unstoppable lately so this game will either be a heroic effort by the Blue Jays or a goal scoring clinic at the hands of the Nittany Lions.

Division 2 Game of the Week

#3 Mercy vs #7 LIU Post
Watch on Mercy Athletics on Saturday April 20 at 2 PM

What a year Mercy is having as they currently sit with a record of 13-1, but now face a strong LIU Post team whose only 2 losses have come from Top 10 teams. A win against LIU Post will show that Mercy deserves their #3 ranking.

Division 3 Game of the Week

#1 Salisbury vs #3 York
Watch on Salisbury Athletics on Wednesday 4/17 at 7 PM

It looks like York will be the last team with a chance to hand Salisbury a loss in the regular season as the Gulls have been the best team in D3 all season. York has been impressive as well with their only loss coming at the hands of #2 RIT. York will definitely be fired up to try and beat Salisbury and take over the #1 spot in Capital conference and the country. Salisbury barely survived against Washington College last weekend to stay undefeated.
