What We’re Watching: College Week 4 & NLL Week 13

Early season upsets continue to happen across college lacrosse and some of the best games of the NLL season will be played this weekend.

Non-conference play continues as college teams are still finding their identities in this first month of the season. At the midway point of the season, playoff spots are still up for grabs and the games are getting more intense every week.

Here are the college and NLL games we are pumped to watch this weekend.

Friday 2/21

Towson (0-2) vs #11 Cornell (1-0)
Watch on LaxSportsNetwork at 4 pm ET

Cornell started their season with a bang as they overpowered Albany. Towson is looking to steady the ship, but that will be a tall task as they face the deadly Big Red offense.

Prediction: Cornell

Game of the Week: Toronto Rock (6-2) vs Halifax Thunderbirds (6-2)
Watch for Free on B/R Live, Facebook, and Twitter at 6 pm ET

This is the must watch game of the weekend as Toronto and Halifax battle for who will be the king in the North Division. The Rock handed T-Birds their first loss of the season a few weeks ago, but this time the game will be played in Halifax which is creating one of the best fanbases in the league in its first season. Lacrosse is booming out in the Maritimes.

Prediction: T-Birds

The crowd at last weekend’s game showed that Halifax is indeed turning into a lacrosse town.

Saturday 2/22

#19 Ohio State vs Bucknell
Watch on the Patriot League Network at 12 pm ET

Bucknell has quietly gone 3-0 to start the season and will face their first big test against the Buckeyes who were stunned by UMass last weekend.

Prediction: Buckeyes

#2 Virginia (2-0) vs Princeton (2-0)
Watch on ACC Network at 12 pm ET

Mike Sowers is the most electric player in college lacrosse, but can he and the Tigers return to the NCAA playoffs in his Senior year? The answer to that question starts against the defending national champions who are red hot to start the season.

Prediction: Princeton

Sowers had 14 points against Colgate to break Princeton and Ivy League records.

#15 Johns Hopkins (1-1) vs #7 North Carolina (3-0)
Watch on ESPN3 at 1 pm ET

Last season Hopkins and UNC played in a crazy game at the UNC Football stadium where the rain destroyed the grass field and the two rivals played in a mud pit. This year’s game will be played at Homewood field where there will be no slipping and sliding in this huge early season tilt.

Prediction: UNC

Hofstra (2-0) vs Villanova (2-1)
Watch on LaxSportsNetwork at 2 pm ET

Villanova took down Maryland last weekend and is ready to claim their spot in the Top 20, but Hofstra wants in as well and could surprise the Wildcats on the back of Senior Ryan Tierney.

Prediction: Nova

San Diego Seals (3-6) vs Vancouver Warriors (4-6)
Watch on B/R Live at 2:30 pm ET

This game was originally supposed to be played at Miramar Air Base, but due to circumstances out of their control, the game had to be moved back to Pechanga Arena. Nevertheless, this a big game for these clubs as the West Division is jam packed with anybody still being able to push for a playoff spot.

Prediction: Seals

Saskatchewan Rush (5-2) vs Philadelphia Wings (7-3)
Watch on B/R Live at 7 pm ET

If only the NLL could have two Games of the Week because this matchup is just as worthy with two of the best teams in the league going toe to toe up in Saskatoon. The Wings have been the biggest surprise of the season as they have made a complete turnaround from last year in large part to the play of goalie Zach Higgins who leads the league in wins, Goals Against, and Save Percentage.

Prediction: Philly

Matt Rambo had 6 goals in their win against New England last weekend.

New England Black Wolves (4-3) vs Rochester Knighthawks (1-7)
Watch on B/R Live at 7 pm ET

The Black Wolves need to get back on track at the end of their 6 game homestand, but the K-Hawks are better than their record shows and would love to play spoiler out at Mohegan Sun Casino.

Prediction: K-Hawks

Calgary Roughnecks (3-4) vs Georgia Swarm (5-3)
Watch on B/R Live at 7 pm ET

2019 NLL MVP Dane Dobbie is back for the Roughnecks after serving his 6 game suspension, but he hasn’t played since November. How big of an impact will he have right away? Calgary will have their hands full with the Thompsons and the Swarm’s potent offense.

Prediction: Calgary

Sunday 2/23

#6 Notre Dame (1-0) vs #17 Richmond (2-1)
Watch on ACC Network at 12 pm ET

Richmond was so close to taking down Maryland in overtime a few weeks ago, so the Irish cannot overlook this game. With only 1 game under their belt, Notre Dame needs to get a groove going before they face tougher opponents down the line.

Prediction: Richmond

#5 Syracuse (2-0) vs #9 Army (3-1)
Watch on ACC Network at 1 pm ET

This was set to be a huge game until Army was upset by Marist on Tuesday. However, the history of this rivalry will still make for a great game as Cuse looks to continue their dominant play lead by #22 Chase Scanlan and company.

Prediction: The Orangemen
