We have another exciting weekend of professional lacrosse ahead of us, but for the second time this summer the PLL is in a bye week. Since there are only 4 MLL games this weekend we have included some videos that we think are a must watch for lacrosse fans to fill the PLL void. This has been one of the most jam packed summers of pro, box, and club lacrosse ever and it just keeps getting better. Here are the MLL games and must watch lacrosse videos that we are watching this week.
Boston Cannons (5-3) vs Denver Outlaws (6-2)
Watch on NBC Sports Boston or NBC Sports App at 6 pm ET
Coming out of the All-Star break Boston and Denver are the top teams in the MLL and will have another chance to see who really is top dog. The Outlaws pulled out a one goal win against the Cannons back in June that was one of the best games of the season so far. Denver’s Zach Currier was held scoreless in the Outlaws last game against the Dallas Rattlers so look out for him to be going hard to the net to get back into his offensive groove. Mark Cockerton and fellow Cannons teammates had a great showing in the All-Star game which they will surely try to carry into the second half of the season.

Dallas Rattlers (1-7) vs Atlanta Blaze (5-4)
Watch on Lax Sports Network at 8 pm ET
The Rattlers finally got into the win column before the All-Star break. Can they turn around their season? They will have to contend with the Blaze to try and get on a win streak, which will be extra difficult with the addition of Mark Matthews to Atlanta’s already deadly offense. Dallas will have to get another strong performance from goalie Sean Sconone and the defense to get their second win of the season.
New York Lizards (3-5) vs Chesapeake Bayhawks (4-3)
Watch on Lax Sports Network at 8 pm ET
In the first of back to back games for these teams this weekend, the captains of the recent All-Star game, New York’s Rob Pannell and Chesapeake’s Lyle Thompson, will meet again, but this time the game will mean something in the standings. The Lizards are starting to hit their stride as they have won their last two games with the most recent win coming against the Bayhawks. The Bayhawks have a tremendously talented group and will have a chance to get revenge on the Lizards. Will one team win both games? Or will they each win one? Both teams have a great chance to come out of the All-Star break with some big wins.
Chesapeake Bayhawks (4-3) vs New York Lizards (3-5)
Watch on Lax Sports Network at 5 pm ET
The second Bayhawks vs Lizards game of the weekend is also Country Night for the Lizards at their home field. Gotta love Kevin Crowley letting the fans know to wear their cowboy hats with his Canadian accent.
This Week’s Must Watch Lacrosse Videos
WLA Box Lacrosse Highlights
There is high level lacrosse being played everywhere this summer and you can find some of the best box lacrosse in the world being played out west in the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA). Many NLL players spend their summers playing for the WLA teams scattered in the Vancouver, BC area where they are scoring incredible goals, getting into fights, and making plays you won’t see in the MLL or PLL. Two of the WLA’s most storied teams Victoria and New Westminster went to battle last week.
How The PLL Broadcast Is Made
The broadcasts for the Premier Lacrosse League on NBC Sports have been amazing so far this season thanks to the high quality production value and the lacrosse knowledge of the broadcasters. This video takes a cool behind the scenes look at what it takes to bring those broadcasts to your living room. From the high stress production trailer to Ryan Boyle using walkie talkies to talk to the mic’d up players, they are doing whatever it takes to give lacrosse fans the best experience possible.
MLL Midseason Highlights
Halfway through the MLL season there have been plenty of spectacular goals, big hits, and crazy saves. Take a look at the best plays from the first half of this MLL season
Sr B Box Lacrosse Game 5 Overtime
I recently wrote about my experience playing Sr B box lacrosse in Canada for the Brooklin Merchants in the Powell Journal and this past week we battled back from being 2 games down in our best of 5 game playoff series to force a Game 5. Playoff box lacrosse is intense and you can get away with slashes, hits, and plays that you can’t do during the regular season. In Game 5, we were down 5-0 after the 1st period and then 7-3 in the 3rd, but we made a comeback to tie it 8-8 and send the game to Overtime. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to finish the miracle as we lost 9-8 in Overtime. It was a wild game and it was an incredible experience to battle with this team and be a part of the Brooklin Lacrosse organization this summer. If you don’t feel like watching the whole game at least watch the end of the 3rd period around the 1 hour and 30 minute mark to watch the comeback and then overtime.
