With 6 NLL games and a boatload of college games at every level, this will be a hectic weekend of games that you will not want to miss out on.

The NLL is almost at the halfway mark of their season and there is still a lot of time for teams to turn around their seasons and make a run at a playoff spot. The Ivy League will finally join the fray this weekend as they play their first games of the 2020 college season. Other college teams are already battling in overtime and with several Top 20 teams meeting this weekend I’m sure the rankings will look very different by the end of the weekend.

Here are the games we at Powell Lacrosse will be watching on this busy Valentine’s Day weekend.

Friday 2/14

#19 Richmond (0-1) vs Marist (1-0)
Watch on ESPN+ at 6 pm ET

Richmond took Maryland to the brink, but fell in overtime last weekend. The Spiders were very impressive with a balanced performance all over the field. Marist won the MAAC last season and will be looking to take down a ranked opponent.

Saturday 2/15

Hofstra (1-0) vs Michigan (1-0)
Watch on LaxSportsNetwork at 11 am ET

Hofstra and Michigan both received votes for the Top 20 poll this past week after they both had strong performances in their first games. The winner of this game could find themselves in the next round of Top 20 rankings.

#4 Maryland (2-0) vs #6 Penn (0-0)
Watch on Big Ten Network+ at 1 pm ET

The Terps are out to a bit of a shaky start after barely getting past a stubborn Richmond team and will now face a Penn squad chomping at the bit to get their season started after barely missing the Final Four.

Anthony DeMaio was the hero for Maryland last weekend.

#14 Army (2-0) vs #20 Rutgers (2-0)
Watch on Patriot League Network at 12 pm ET

Both teams are off to a hot start with some dominant wins, but will now face their first real challenge against each other. Army’s Brendan Nichtern has 14 points in 2 games and Rutgers will counter with their own offensive star in Adam Charalambides.

#2 Virginia (1-0) vs #18 Lehigh (1-0)
Watch on ACC Network at 1 pm ET

The defending National Champion Cavs looked very ready for a title defense against Loyola, but could have their hands full with a hungry and balanced Lehigh team. Payton Cormier could be a difference maker for the Wahoos this season.

UAlbany (0-0) vs #12 Cornell (0-0)
Watch on ESPN+ at 1 pm ET

This will be an old fashioned Upstate brawl as Albany is ready for a bounce back year and Cornell is ready for a NCAA title run led by Jeff Teat.

Loyola (0-1) vs #11 Johns Hopkins (1-0)
Watch on Patriot League Network at 3:30 pm ET

The Battle of Charles Street will return to Ridley where Hopkins is ready for revenge against the Greyhounds who embarrassed the Blue Jays at Homewood field on the back of Pat Spencer, but Spencer is gone and it’s a whole new ball game for these rivals.

When I think of Loyola vs Hopkins I think of their 2012 overtime thriller that had one of the loudest college lacrosse crowds I’ve ever seen.

Halifax Thunderbirds (6-1) vs Saskatchewan Rush (4-2)
Watch on B/R Live at 6 pm ET

#1 in the North vs #1 in the West, what more could you ask for? Halifax and its fan base are what Sask was back in 2016 in their first season so it will be fun to watch one of the NLL’s most successful franchises against a new one in Halifax that is already winning and drawing fans in a new market. This should be one of the best games of the weekend.

Georgia Swarm (4-3) vs New York Riptide (1-8)
Watch on B/R Live at 7 pm ET

The last time these two teams played, the Riptide stunned the Swarm as they won their first ever game in overtime. The Swarm will be eager to get revenge.

Buffalo Bandits (6-2) vs Philadelphia Wings (5-3)
Watch on B/R Live at 7 pm ET

These old school rivals meet once again. The Bandits will be fired up after losing a tough game last weekend to Toronto. The Wings haven’t played since January and will need to shake off the cobwebs quickly.

Game of the Week: Toronto Rock (5-2) vs Vancouver Warriors (4-5)
Watch on B/R Live at 7 pm ET

The Rock are one of the hottest teams in the league after handing Halifax their first loss and then beating the Bandits last weekend. They will welcome the Warriors to Scotiabank Arena and will have their hands full as Vancouver is beginning to gain some steam.

The Rock are 3-1 at home this season.

Colorado Mammoth (4-6) vs San Diego Seals (3-5)
Watch on B/R Live at 9:30 pm ET

Just two weeks ago the Seals and Mammoth played in Las Vegas, which was a great event for the league, but now it’s back to business. The Seals beat the Mammoth in Vegas, but with the Loud House crowd behind them Colorado could get their revenge.

Sunday 2/16

New England Black Wolves (4-2) vs Philadelphia Wings (5-3)
Watch on B/R Live at 5 pm ET

It took overtime to settle the game between these two teams about a month ago and there was no shortage of controversy around Callum Crawford’s game winning goal. They will meet again at Mohegan Sun, but the Wings will have to dig deep if they hope to beat the Black Wolves this time after playing the Bandits the night before and dealing with travel.
